Difference between Liposuction and Abdominoplasty

Key difference: The liposuction is a treatment of extraction of fat from the body’s bulky part, whereas, abdominoplasty is a method, where the fat is extracted only from abdomen.

According to Wikipedia:

Liposuction is also known as ''lipoplasty'' ("fat modeling"), which involves ''liposculpture''; ''suction lipectomy'' means suction-assisted fat removal.

Liposuction is a traditional method carried out to remove the body fat. This is that fat which is believed to cause the irregularity in a person’s appearance.  The fat, which gives rise to obesity, can be extracted from the body through a surgical method.

In liposuction extra fats are removed through surgery. The person is given proper anesthesia, and then the fat is extracted with the help of a hollow tube also known as cannula. When the tube is inserted, it creates a vacuum, which looses the fat. The fat is then removed through the incision.

In liposuction, the procedures to be maintained are:

  • To abstract the right amount of fat.
  • To cause the least disturbance of neighboring tissue, such as blood vessels and connective tissue.
  • To leave the person’s fluid balance undisturbed.
  • To cause the least discomfort to the patient.

According to Wikipedia:

‘’Abdominoplasty’’ or ‘’tummy tuck’’ is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen more firm.

Abdominoplasty is a medical surgery, which involves the removal of excess fat from the abdominal region. The fat which forms a bulky area in the middle and lower parts are extracted by the surgical treatment. The abdominoplasty is basically carried out in those females, who have gone through multiple pregnancies.

From a physique point of view, in order to maintain the straight posture, surgery is carried out. The extra fats from abdominal regions are removed.

In general, a complete abdominoplasty follows these steps:

  • An incision is made from hip to hip just above the pubic area.
  • Another incision is made to free the navel from the surrounding skin.
  • The skin is detached from the abdominal wall to reveal the muscles and fascia to be tightened. The muscle fascia wall is tightened with sutures.
  • Liposuction is often used to refine the transition zones of the abdominal sculpture.
  • A dressing and sometimes a compression garment are applied and any excess body fluid from the site is drained.
