Difference between Community and Locality

Key difference: Community means a group of people who choose to live together, due to the common interests and habits that they share. Locality is the geographical area or the neighborhood where a particular person, or a family, or a community, etc. resides.

Communities are a great source of knowledge diffusion and absorption. When a set of like minded people sharing common characteristics come together, their convention is known as a community. Apart from providing a platform for information exchange, communities help out people in a number of ways. Some communities are formed to nurse the sick and old for free of cost, while some take up the task of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in their neighborhoods. Communities also function on fun and recreational themes such as sports, arts, drama, literature, etc.

Locality involves the geographical whereabouts of a particular person, or a family, or a community. It provides an enclosure for these entities to collectively live in, by providing various resources that go into establishing such a settlement. Localities are generally small confinements within a city or a district or a town. They can refer to a neighborhood, or a rural settlement, or a small-scale village township. Usually, localities are not densely populated, but depending upon the surroundings, localities can be inundated by a large number of people. For instance, river banks, or localities near fresh water bodies are often thickly populated.
