Almost all cultures have heard of omelets or omelettes and have their own variations of it as well. Because of globalization, many countries have now taken up preparing and dining on dishes that were otherwise alien. Specifically countries such as the US and UK have become a melting pot for various different kinds of culture blended together. This ensures that a person always has variety to eat. Two egg dishes that are often confusing for many people are omelets and frittatas.

An omelet or omelette is basically eggs that have been beaten and seasoned in a bowl are then fried on a skillet or a flat-base pan with butter or oil. To create an omelet, the person would be first required to break and beat eggs in a bowl. To make the eggs fluffier the person can incorporate milk, cream or baking powder. The eggs in the bowl are then seasoned with salt, pepper or chili. In some variations other ingredients such as tomato, chopped green chili, onion and meat are incorporated into the beating bowl with the eggs. A frying pan is then oiled or buttered heavily before the egg batter is placed in it to fry. Once, one side is done the egg is either flipped to cook on the other side or folded and served. Some countries add the ingredients such as tomato, meat and cheese, on the eggs after it has been placed into the pan and then fold it over in half before serving it.

A frittata is made by beating eggs vigorously to incorporate more air into the mixture before it is mixed with other ingredients such as meat, cheeses and vegetables. The mixture with the eggs is then baked in the oven. To make a frittata, a person would first beat eggs in a bowl and season them with salt, pepper and other spices depending on the cook. In another bowl a mixture of vegetables, cheeses and meat is created. The mixture is then added to a baking pan and topped off with the beaten eggs. The mixture is then baked until the top develops a nice crust. Frittatas resemble a crustless quiche or a pie. Some people slow cook the mixture over the gas stop before broiling it to develop a crispy crust on the top.

There are many differences between omelets and frittatas. Omelets have been acquired from the French cuisine, while frittatas are Italian. Omelets are made on stove tops, while frittatas require full baking or semi-baking depending on the style. Omelets fold the ingredients in the middle of the egg and frittatas mix all the ingredients together thoroughly. Omelets are served hot with bread and bacon as breakfast, while frittatas are served at room temperature with salads or vegetables during brunches. Omelets may be runny or wet depending on how the person wants it, while frittatas are well-cooked.
