Difference between Pen Drive and USB Drive

Key Difference: Pen drives, also known as memory sticks or USB sticks are used to store data, records or any information from the computer. USB, short for, Universal Serial Bus, is equipment that was developed in the 1990s. It was developed to transfer data or files from computers to any computer peripheral devices.

Pen drive and USB drive is one and the same thing. The terms are sometimes used interchangeably. They both are electronic storage devices in which the information is stored and can be erased, if not needed. However, there are some differences between both the terms: Pen drive and USB drive.

Pen drives, also known as memory sticks or USB sticks are used to store data, records or any information from the computer. It is a portable memory stick and is very user-friendly. One can easily transfer data from a computer to the pen drive. A pen drive would continue to be a pen drive if it is used as wireless, bluetooth or a phone line to move data from the computer to its memory chips.

USB, short for, Universal Serial Bus, is equipment that was developed in the 1990s. It was developed to transfer data or files from computers to any computer peripheral devices such as cameras, printer, bluetooth handset, audio-visual records, etc. It refers to the technology used in the connections like keyboards, iPods, etc., which is a series of flat pins found in the connection headers that transfer and pass on the data to other peripheral devices.

Pen drive and USB drive have the same storage capacity from 4GB to 64GB (Gigabytes). Smaller and larger drives are also available but they're harder to find. They are re-writable devices in which one can write and delete unlimited number of times.
