The screen offers HD reality display and is supported by the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. The SP works on 2G, 3G and LTE network (depending on market availability and sports a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Dual Core processor. The iPhone 5 is the latest innovative product of the Apple Company. They have made the new phone slicker, thinner and lighter with even more packed features. iPhone 5, bigger than its predecessors, supports a 4-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD screen with 640 x 1136 pixels and 16 million colors.

Smartphones have taken over the world! It has become a trend, a necessity and a way of life. They have made it easier to do everything on the go, from e-mailing, video conferencing, to writing up a report or a project. There isn’t anything you cannot do these days with a smartphone. But alas, similar to all technological devices, the software and features start to become outdated as new features and software are developed and released. There are also many phones that are not suited for the all people. Hence, many companies launch similar middle-range variants that only have popular features for a lesser price. This ensures that the smart phone is available to the masses and not limited to the classes.

Sony announced the launch of its most anticipated smart phone the Xperia Z in January. In March, it also announced its revamped cell phone line up. In addition to the high and mighty Z, the company has also announced the launch of the mid-range cell phone Xperia SP. The SP model combines features from the Sony’s 2012 models S and P as well retains some features from flagship.

The Xperia SP is a 4.6-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen phone that has been encased in an all-aluminum body. It is less then 10mm thick and weights approximately 155 grams. The screen offers HD reality display and is supported by the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. The SP works on 2G, 3G and LTE network (depending on market availability and sports a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Dual Core processor. The phone is available with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with no word on if it is upgradeable to the 4.2 version. The phone has 8 GB worth of internal space, of which only 5.8 GB is available to the users; however, fret not Sony also offers a SD card slot that is expandable up to 32 GB.

For all the camera shutterbugs, the SP houses the 8MP Exmor RS camera that gives brilliant and sharp images in low-lighting, back-lighting and snaps shots with low noise. The camera also has features such as Superior Auto that uses Scene Recognition to automatically adjust the photo setting. Additionally, it also offers 16x digital zoom, autofocus and pulsed LED flash. One of the old features that have been revamped is the notification light from the Xperia P. The notification light has been added as a see through strip on the bottom of the handset. The notification light is customizable and the user can add different lights to different callers. The lights also changes pulse rate during songs. The notification light is visible on the both sides of the phone, making it easier to determine the caller through the light when the phone is placed faced down. The phone also offers aluminum power button the right panel and has also brought back the physical camera button. However, the phone isn’t able to record HDR video. Sony has not yet announced the prices and the launch dates for the phone.

The iPhone 5 is the latest innovative product of the Apple Company. They have made the new phone slicker, thinner and lighter with even more packed features. Apple claims that the iPhone 5 is 18% thinner, 20% lighter, and has 12% less overall volume compared to the iPhone 4S. iPhone 5, bigger than its predecessors, supports a 4-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD screen with 640 x 1136 pixels and 16 million colors. The phone also offers safety features such as corning gorilla class as well as oleophobic coating that keep fingerprints off the front screen. iPhone 5 comes with the latest Apple iOS 6 that is upgradeable to 6.1. It includes a 1.2 GHz dual core Apple A6 processor, PowerVR SGX543MP3 and 1GB RAM.

The phone is available with non-expandable 16, 32 or 64 GB internal storage capacity. The problem with the new OS is that many features that work only with the iOS 6 do not work in certain territories and Apple has a rolling program that it said will take time to implement across more regions. The phone can also act as a hotspot and can share internet connection over WiFi, Bluetooth, or USB. Similar to the older versions, iPhone 5 is equipped with Siri that allows the user to operate the iPhone via vocal commands. However, Siri has been improved to and supports additional features such as being able to make restaurant reservations, launch apps, make twitter updates, search the internet for queries, etc. iOS 6 features several new and/or updated apps, which includes Apple Maps and Passbook. Apple Maps has faced hostility as does not execute properly and has also been known to give wrong directions. The Passbook app is able to retrieve documents such as boarding passes, admission tickets, coupons and loyalty cards. The phone also offers a new charging port, which is much smaller and more compact compared to the old chargers. They will also require a converter if you want to use them with the old charger, docks and other accessories. The phone has also shifted the headphone jack to the bottom of the phone.

The information for the detailed table about the two phones has been taken from the Sony Mobile website, Apple website, and GSMArena.com.
