There are many different kinds of purifiers, each of which have advantages for certain applications or purposes. However, the impurities focused on in the purification process are those that relate to the overall safety of the water. It does not remove the minerals or salt from water; it does not purify hard water; it just primarily makes water taste better and healthier to drink.

A water softener is mainly a type of filter, which removes calcium and magnesium from the water to produce soft water. It is used to treat hard water which contains an excessive amount of minerals and iron that can be an expensive trouble for a home. It is a simple appliance that is stored with salt. It is fairly easy to obtain and maintain. A person needs to do only one thing after installing the water softener that is to periodically add sodium chloride, and the rest of the work will be done by the water softener.
