BB, CC and DD creams seem to be very technical names for the creams. However, they are just the shortened names of the creams. Each of these creams has been categorized according to the features it provides or claims to provide.
BB refers to Blemish or Beauty Balm. Creams of this particular type claim to be an all-in-one cream which primarily provides coverage as a primer. It moisturizes the skin and also works as a foundation with SPF. It claims to address many of the issues related to the skin. This is considered to be formulated by German Dermatologists. Originally, it was offered to people who underwent cosmetic surgery but later gained a lot of popularity as a pumped up tinted moisturizer.
CC stands for Color Correction. These creams claim to work on the spots of the skin on priority basis. It takes care of the issues like redness and dull complexion. It is regarded to be an improved version of the BB cream. It is known for its lightweight texture. The coverage provided by a CC cream is greater than a BB cream. However, it is less than a foundation. These creams are also known as color correcting creams. The finish provided by a CC cream is opaque. On the other hand, BB creams provide a sheer finish.
DD creams have hit the market recently. They claim to provide some new set of features. However, it claims to retain the benefits of BB and CC creams. It prioritizes on the anti-aging factor. They claim to work on fine lines and wrinkles, and therefore the manufacturers advice them to mature women. Julep has introduced the first DD cream. It contains the extracts of olive and hibiscus as ingredients.
All these creams may be a little different in their key functionally, but still many features are the same in all these creams. For example, three of them claim to provide smooth skin, protection with SPF and also the required hydration to the skin. It is important to mention that the benefits provided by them depend largely on the individual formula.
