Key difference: The difference between a newspaper and a newsletter is based on their readership, features, types, and functions. Although, one main difference between the two types of news is that a newspaper is available on a daily basis, and a newsletter is available on a weekly basis.

Even though, there are a variety of news channels, newspapers, newsletter, and magazines play an important part in people’s life. And, somehow the early morning newspaper is a must for everyone. Though, the weekly newsletters and monthly magazines are considered a good read too by the people.

A newspaper is defined as a regularly published collection of fairly brief articles that provide updates on current events and interests. It is generally published on a daily, weekly, and bi-weekly basis. Although, most major newspapers publish daily, they do an extra expanded coverage on the weekends.

Depending on their content and focus, newspapers can be termed national or international or might be targeted strictly to a particular community or locality. Usually, the articles in the paper are largely written by the newspaper staff and editors, and often their names are not subjected in the article. Although, many articles appearing in the papers are written by various wire service writers, they are independently syndicated. Also, a newspapers is not only about news from around the world, it has other features like comics, puzzles and other entertainment trivia. Another important factor is that newspapers rely on advertisements for a part of their income and might include few photographs or even the colored illustrations of photos.

A newsletter, on the other hand, is defined as a regularly published collection of brief news articles that might interest the members of a particular community. It is generally articles about one main topic of interest by its subscribers. Also, newspaper and leaflets are considered a type of newsletter.

Generally, newsletters are published by clubs, churches, societies, associations, and businesses, especially companies, in order to provide information of interest to its members or customers. It is also issued to keep their membership up to date. Similarly, businesses, schools and other professionals might issue newsletters to keep their constituents up to date. In fact, nearly any type of organization or society can have its own newsletter.

A newsletter is considered as ‘grey literature’, because the articles are very brief and the entire newsletter itself might be only a couple or half a dozen pages in length. These are internal publications that only have interest in people who participate in the activities of the issuing body. They are frequently used to inform members of an organization about any upcoming events.
