Difference Between Quran and Bible

Key Difference: Quran or Koran is the holy book of Islam. It contains the religious texts and laws of Islam and is considered to be the compilation of verbatim words of Allah as dictated to Muhammad. Bible is a holy book associated with Christianity. It is a collection of canonical books in two parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Religion is closely associated with holy books. These books form a basis of the fundamental beliefs pertaining to the related religion. These books are considered to be highly sacred. Various religions are present through out the world. Islam and Christianity also refer to two different religions.

Quran and Bible are associated with the religions of Islam and Christianity, respectively. Though, every religion has same underlying thoughts of beliefs in the supreme power. However, the ways to express these thoughts differ from one to another. Quran and Bible are two such holy books and let us find the differences between these two holy books.

The word "Quran" means recitation. The name was applied by Prophet Mohammed to refer to each individual portion of the book. Later, the same name was used for the whole book. It is written in the Arabic language. In the Quran, the recitation about ‘Allah’ is mentioned by the Prophet Muhammad.  Muslims believe that Quran was one of the miracles of Muhammad and therefore, it is also regarded as a proof of his prophethood.

It is believed that Muhammad revived divine revelations from the angel Jibril over a period of twenty-two years (610-632), and these messages were collected and written down in the Quran. Quran was compiled by the Caliphs, who were also his successors. The compilation took place after the death of Mohammad. Hence, Quran is considered an important Islamic sacred scripture.

In the Quran itself, it is described as a book of guidance. It also contains detailed accounts of some specific events that happened in the past.

Bible is a holy book that is associated with Christianity. It is supposedly originated from the Greek word 'biblios' meaning books or scrolls. It is a collection of canonical books in two parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament.  The Jews only believe in the Old Testament, whereas Christians believe in both, old as well as new testaments. The Old Testament was primarily written in Hebrew (around 1450 B.C. and 400 BC), with some books written in Aramaic, whereas the new testament was written in Greek.

The Hebrew Bible contains 39 books. The Christian Bible adds to the Hebrew Bible some 27 more books, giving a total of about 66 books. The Old and New testaments are together known as the ‘Holy Bible.’ It is believed that the spirit of God breathed on the authors of the bible and they wrote the bible.

The Book of Job, perhaps the oldest book of the Bible, was written around B.C. 2000-1500. It is supposed to be written by approximately 45 different writers over a span of about 1200 years. These writers are considered to be the mediums through which the words of God were written. Though, both Quran and Bible are related with different religions, they both are considered as the written revelations that are claimed to be inspired by God.
