Difference between Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime

Key Difference:The Redmi 2 Prime has a lot common with its counterpart, Redmi 2. The phone is said to be just a bumped up version of the phone from where it gets its name.There are only three differences between the phones: in RAM, Storage and Colors.

Xiaomi has recently announced that it has opened a manufacturing unit in India. It had even initially promised to launch a phone that was manufactured in India and as promised, it has delivered. Redmi 2 Prime is the first phone that the company has launched in India at its Foxconn facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.

The Redmi 2 Prime has a lot common with its counterpart, Redmi 2. The phone is said to be just a bumped up version of the phone from where it gets its name. Let’s get the similarities out of the way first.

Both the phones come with a 4.7 inch IPS LCD display with 312 ppi pixel density and protected against scratches by AGC Dragontrail glass. Both the phones weigh 133g and are also identical in looks.The phones offer the same 8 MP rear and 2 MP front snapper.

Even under the hood, both the phones are powered by a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor paired with an Adreno 306 graphics card. The phone comes with Android KitKat, layered with the company’s MIUI 6.0. The phones also come with an expandable slot that allows users to expand memory up to 32 GB.  The phones come with a Li-Po 2200mAh battery with fast charging option.

Now to the differences. There are only three differences between the phones: in RAM, Storage and Colors. The Redmi 2 comes with a 1 GB RAM, while the Redmi 2 prime has bumped up the RAM to 2 GB. Redmi 2 also comes with an 8 GB internal storage and the Redmi 2 Prime offers 16 GB storage capacity. Lastly, Redmi comes in an array of colors and so far Redmi 2 Prime is available in grey and white.
