Difference between Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2

Key Difference: Sony came out with their Sony Xperia Z2, while Samsung followed with the Samsung Galaxy S5. Both phones are dust and water resistant, and can be submerged into 3.3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The S5 has a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, while the Z2 has a 5.2 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen.

There are many smarphones that are available in the market, both from low-end to high-end. Two of the many OEMs in the market are Samsung and Sony. While Samsung currently holds the largest smartphone market share, Sony does own quite a decent chunk of it. Both companies recently launched their latest flagship phones. Sony came out with their Sony Xperia Z2, while Samsung followed with the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Both phones are high end flagship phones that are directly competitive with each other. The S5 has a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, while the Z2 has a 5.2 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. Both however have the same resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. As Z2 has a slightly larger screen, it has a slightly less pixel density, 424 ppi compared to S5’s 432 ppi. However this will not be visible to the naked eye. The Z2 has a shatter proof glass display with Triluminos display, whereas the S5’s screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The Z2 is slightly larger than the S5, as it does have the slightly larger screen. It is also slightly heavier than the S5, but this is to be expected as its chassis is made out of metal, whereas the S5 is made out of polycarbonate.

In terms of hardware, both run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, with quad-core Krait 400 and Adreno 330. However, the S5 clocks a speed of 2.5 GHz, while the Z2 clocks a speed of 2.3 GHz. Additionally, the S5 has 2 GB of RAM, while the Z2 comes with 3 GB RAM. While the S5 comes with a 16 MP camera capable of taking a picture with 5312 x 2988 pixel resolution, the Z2 come with a 20.7 MP camera that allows one to take a picture with a 5248 х 3936 pixel resolution. The Z2 camera is powered by Exmor RS for mobile image sensor, while the S5 uses a hybrid autofocus system that uses standard auto focus with phase detection autofocus, which means that the camera auto focuses in upto 0.3 seconds, which is faster than most phone cameras. Both phones have a 1080p front facing camera, the S5 a 2 MP, while the Z2 a 2.2 MP.

The S5 is available in two storage variants, 16 GB and 32 GB, whereas the Z2 is only available with 16 GB ROM. However, both allow expandable storage of up to 128 GB. The Z2 features three color variants: black, white and purple, while the S5 is availabe in four variants: black, white, blue and copper.

Other than these regular features, both phones also have features that make the phone stand out. Both phones are dust and water resistant, and can be submerged into 3.3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. However, the Z2 has a slightly higher resistance rating which means that it can be submerged deeper and withstand fairly powerful water jets too.

The S5 also features a fingerprint scanner it in its home button. It also has a heart rate monitor on the back that syncs with an updated S Health App. The S5 is also upgraded to USB 3.0 which means that it allows for faster data transfer rates and reduced charging times. It also features a new Ultra Power Saving Mode, which when activated turns the phone into black and white and shuts down all background apps, allowing the battery to last longer. In response to this, Sony came out with its own Stamina mode that allows the battery to preserve usage.
