The Oscars are an accolade that is given annually for recognizing excellence in films. The Oscars are more formally known as The Academy Awards because it is organized and overseen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The winners are also selected by the Academy and the awards are often given at a formal ceremony. The AMPAS was originally established by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio executive Louis B. Mayer. The first award ceremony was held in 1929 and fifteen statuettes were awarded during that ceremony. Currently, the Academy Awards has more than a dozen categories and also includes various different types of film. The Academy Awards take place in February of each year. The Oscars' winners are selected by approximately 60,000 industry professionals that are part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

The Grammy Awards are an accolade that is given annually for recognizing excellence in the music industry. They are unusually called the Gramophone Awards. The performances of the famous artists are given in a formal manner that is widely televised. The Grammy Awards are organized and overseen by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) of the United States. The first Grammy Award was held in the year 1959 and it was basically set up to honor and give tribute to the musical accomplishments. Grammy winners are selected by voting members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). The academy is comprised of more than 19,000 musicians, producers, recording engineers and other recording professionals. The Oscars focus on the cinema, whereas, the Grammy Awards mainly focus on the music industry.
